Design anywhere and digital culture NEWS // January 2006
Jules
David focuses on identity design. Well I say let's focus on his
talent! Wow! I'm impressed, haven't seen so much diversity coupled
with this rare quality: ability and capability to envision and deliver
such a high rate of high quality and very strong concepts.
There is this unmistakable uniqueness in ALL his projects.
Awesome!
His thing has to do with hip xtreme sports lifestyle oriented markets!
He understands it. He's nailed it!
Looking at his work generates pure joy and envy! Gheez it makes me want
to work, think and design harder. This is what true talent and en
route to become design masters do: they push themselves!
In return, they inspire us - to push ourselves further!

What's
an Intel chip doing in a Mac?
“About 7 months ago, Apple announced that they were leaving the
PowerPC platform to embrace Intel... They said it would be about a year...
but they are now shipping
iMac systems with the Intel Core Duo Processor...”

“You're
blessed - you've been at it for a while - but being truly honest with
yourself - your work is reaching a repetitive status. Why? What is repetitive?
There's a difference between a designer's signature and reaching your
limits.
Don't kid yourself -
we all do!”

“With some of the big marketing publications predicting
2006 to be the year of rich media email, we thought to test flash support
in all the popular email clients. The verdict: it aint gonna happen!”

The cause of all refugees and political dissidents has been closed to
my heart since the hey days when I was working at the CRMA and was introduced
to Amnesty International activities
in regard with the painful and grave realities of conduct, torture and
deaths endured by many who were resisting their national governments.

It was the highest of the Cold War. I was forever changed. My then boss
who was my best mentor and friend was smuggling scientists from around
the world and often times, put his career and life on the line.
Like I've said many times before: never underestimate
the power of one! If you can, buy the book, your help is always welcomed.

Business of Design presents the most comprehensive picture yet
of the UK's design industry.
It is based on national research, comprising nearly 2,500 interviews,
and focuses on the sector's scope and economic significance, how its
consultancies, freelances and in-house teams do business, and what education,
training and skills its designers have.

Is
Your Homepage Immature? by Indi Young
“Too many Fortune 500 homepages suffer from the same malady. They
reflect too much of the dysfunction behind the scenes, and not enough
of the companies’ intended brand messages.”

Although you many not work at or for Fortune clients, this article has

To
finish the year in beauty check this jewel!!! If you can't tell yet,
I LUV illustration. Actually, thanks to a good doctor who gave me my
first design assignment (following a delicate eye operation
at 2 years old, and to prevent my newly straightened eye to stray again,
I had to practice convergence focus by using a special machine / mirror
and draw over existing simple forms), little did he know, that drawing
would become a lifelong passion.
Drawn! is a collaborative weblog for
illustrators, artists, cartoonists, and anyone who likes to draw. John
Martz aka Robot Johny conceived
of the project, like all good ideas, while goofing off at work.
Visit daily for a dose of links and creative inspiration.

Dreamlines
is a technically brilliant exploration and the redrawing randomness of
lines is astute, but fetched images are somewhat dull and makes the project
not as impacting visually as it could have been.
Having a selective database of submitted artworks would have enriched
the experience.

About:
Inclusive Design by Roger Coleman
“By 2020, close to half the UK's adult population will be over
50. But are products, services and environments changing to keep up with
this seismic demographic shift, not to mention the needs of disabled
people?
Increasingly, organisations are realising that the key to success lies
in making what they do accessible to as many people as possible.”

Oh
gosh! My reaction was not another! But in all fairness, I had
to visit this submission before discarding. Well there you go, another
hypereal 3D immersive car pimping site for a car manufacturer, in this
case, the Lexus IS250.
Honest, even me who don't particularly like cars (you know Kyoto?)
or even own one, had to recognized the beauty and incredible flash technical
skills displayed to home in their point.
Mouseover to pan around the gorgeous pictures and activate close-ups.
Maneuver the different sizes circles to up a level. Smart!

Designboom
Mart Tokyo. For product and industrial designers, don't miss this
event review.
“Designboom also offered about one-third of the stalls to our
readers. Designers and craft designers from all over the world sent us
their application. We wish we could invite them all. There really is
room for everyone in Designboom.
This attitude sparks ideas and motivates people to pursue excellence.
We love to meet new people and make new connections.”

“Who
in the ’70s and early ’80s, was a singer-songwriter-guitarist

songs, Latin- and reggae-tinged political statements and roaring rock
anthems were hits waiting to happen?”

Thinking
Outside the Grid by Molly E. Holzschlag
“CSS has broken the manacles that kept us chained to grid-based
design...so why do so few sites deviate from the grid? The answer has
something to do with airplanes, urban planning, and British cab drivers.”

In
an era of fast and furious, interesting that centuries old Renaissance
techniques are being rediscovered. The master craft of using stucco to
create wonderful wall treatments with intense coloring and visual depth
and patina fx has always been a fascinating process to me.
Antico Effetto have the
acquired the skills and apply these to create stunning results! Even
moreso having real appeal, even in the most minimalist modern environments.
Luv the cross-over resilliency of old art into modern space living.
