to the makers and individuals behind...
AH!!! And
the winners are?

ndle1: So
you know, even though I was a member of the jury, I did not vote on
any sites I was previously acquainted with. It is an industry rule
to avoid bias and professional conflicts while judging a competition.
That being said, the results - reflect the decisions of all the other
judges.

Patrik
de Jong and Dirk Hoffmann have aligned boldly and co-founded the artificialduck studio
in Hamburg, Germany.
LIMN
Collection - a compendium of modern design. Inside you'll find
100 items in the LIMN showroom collection. But this is only the beginning.
LIMN represents over 1,200 international manufacturers, most of whom
offer 100 products each in 10 fabric, finish, or configuration options.
That's more than 1,000,000 items in all!

We
always need support in addressing and learning about the apps software
we use - OmniPilot ListSearch was
recommended by Jeff Clark. You can search through by chunk of time, as
in the past month, ask that it list topics and voila!
New
is not always better but in the case of Jon
Burgerman, the relaunch of his new CSS site reloads with tons of
cuties too look at, (look at his messenger bag and shoes) is definitely
better.

Now
in solo, Dodo Arslan launches his
own studio! Cool! Products and prototypes will be exhibited at the i
Saloni 2005.

Independent
Contractor by newly freelancing Jason Santa Maria.
“Time will only tell if this works out for me, or
if I end up on the highway off-ramp selling half-sharpened pencils. This
is just my advice from the questions I receive, take it with a sack of
salt.”
Chris
Barr is available on Thursday (March & April).
Why would anyone do this? ... “a stepping stone to investigate
issues of authorship and collaboration, body and self as commodity, and
artist as social organizer.”

ndle1: Mmm...
what do you think of that?
Quirky
pseudo electro rock music and somewhat darkly overtoned original navigational
system for the Fur Patrol flash
site.

You
have gotta see this! Wonderful! Animated pixel design portfolio site
for excellent flash designer Stephane
Guillot! Attention to details is quite impressive and the actionscripting
and mini-anims are way cool.
Brillant with a touch of humor. LUV it!

All
of us have had excruciating ouch encounters when you felt your heart
literally ripped out of you. This article shows staggering evidence as
to why forgiving is better than not. There are dire aftermath consequences.
I am a firm believer of forgiveness. I need to be forgiven. What this
world needs now is a whole lot more forgiveness.
Letting
Go. The power of forgiveness by Sally Abrahms
“When you forgive, you are taking control of your
life. That person no longer has power over you. Instead of stewing, you
can move on... That means letting go of the anger, resentment, or hatred--again,
not for the offender's sake but for your own.”
Excellent
articles to read: Bird
in Hand: When Does A Copy Become Plagiarism? by William Drentel.
“In the world of design and photography, there seems to be an
implicit understanding that any original work can and will evolve into
the work of others, eventually working its way into our broader visual
culture.”
To be followed by Designing
Under the Influence by Michael Bierut.
Don't miss the readers' comments! Quite a debate going on!

What
I like most about Monza is really
their on refresh pictures of the group and some of their videos montage
and footage. They are very photogenic and their video staging errs more
on the side of film making than music.
Their music is narcissico-electro-intellectual which you can or not
appreciate and reminescent in my opinion, of some of the progressive
clips of an era gone by.

Nah...
ain't an advertising site about golf being good for kidz. It's actually
the very unsettling home of Matthew
Mahon who does??? Ain't got a clue. The site is certainly a technical
achievement - the flash insertion in the stills is certainly impressive
but from a user point of view, if like me, your sound is off? Who was
it intended to? How do I get to know what is offered or presented?
Anyway with the sound on, then you have this commentary on each photograph
and you get it. Matthew is a photographer and his strategy to get his
work out there - makes some sense.
In fact, his comments are really interesting.

the introduction to the profile of Tippi

a
rising star fashion designer.
This eye candy delight takes you to her virtual couture shop with
just enough perspective to make the illusion real. One of my fav areas

is a great illustrator and has been part of netdiver for a number of
years herself.

Meta
thoughts anybody? Who are the Fallacy Files? Gary
N. Curtis who has a doctoral degree in philosophy. He began collecting
and studying logical fallacies about twenty years ago, when he first
became interested in logic. A logical "fallacy" is a mistake
in reasoning. However, the term fallacy is used in two related,
but distinct ways.
For example: “Argumentum ad Hominem is a fallacy.” - “Your
argument is a fallacy.” Wow! This is a true emporium of brain bites!
Why the above reference? Because BG was knighted and
there was a link in this comment: “Just because something is common
practice doesn't make it right! That's called the bandwagon
fallacy.”

Interesting
plight - that of Gilmore
v. Ascroft as well as the little footer quote that accompanies the
site:
“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary
safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” - Benjamin Franklin.

probably one of the disappearing manufacturing process: Manu factum (made

and tradition - the lovelies you have to see in the elegant flash site
that the nice peop at Schech.net came
up with.
Like Dominik said - with such craft and a marvelous story - it was not
hard to be inspired! Don't miss the Virtual Tour under Showroom / World

Do
you know what is Netdiver mission? Brought to you by as a week-end refreshment.
Netdiver is devoted to tutoring, empowering and stimulating
creativity as well as excellence in design projects by the international
community involved in the new media industry and beyond!
Pacific
Trail nice flash site. The pictures mostly taken in the desert
have this spark of light which makes all colors very vibrant. Excellent
art direction and design montage. Cool shirts and pants too.

Refreshed

Check his Wired assignments! Very good.

Celebrating
outstanding talents from Columbia with LUV! PLASMA
4 a multi_pluri design disciplinarians studio and well well well,
hard to believe - but they seem to have been able to acquire, nail and
design across so many medias... until you actually see it, it's hard
not to think, they might be a big big big ego hoax and boast.
Right off - interactive media seems to be their weakest link... Maybe
out of having not done enough projects - given more opportunities - I
am sure they will thrive.
That being said. If that is their weak spot imagine what are
their strong ones! Ya man, call it mega design capabilities.
Sometimes you can be an excellent technician and lack the most basic
notions in easthetic theory making you closer to a dam engineer than
a communication and visual architecture expert beautician on the skill
spectrum.
They have crossed and ventured into so many disciplines with bravado
- in fact, they have succeeded in delivering many outstanding solutions.
I mean - their booth and environmental designs are simply staggeringly
efficient and beautiful. They even added a dip in furniture design!
Their graphic design skills can be straight business shots since they
seem to easily step in and stretch across different markets (from pharma,
investment, video prod to baby stuff...) with ease. They even know how
to bag sharp illustrations and 3D renderings, not forsaking, how to shoot
a good picture or two!
The richness of their laying textures mix with quirky composition are
absolutely brillant.
Be warned! They have enough funk to dazzle even hard to impress urban
savvies.
Their web site is really cute and every bit like them. Original (a crystal
studded logo?), eclectic (pay attention to section transitions) and well
thought out (nav is relatively simple in view of showing so many different
projects and how the visited thumbs have a layer over with x in the corner).
Dizzy??? Enough - hop there!

The
3D models illustrations are simply outstanding from MeStudio.
Don't miss the photos retouching (before and after). Francis Fernandez
is available for freelance work... so if you like his work...

Do
you know? Processing is a programming
language and environment built for the electronic arts and visual design
communities.
It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a

It is used by students, artists, designers, architects, and researchers
for learning, prototyping, and production.

Fresh
on the block FORM US WITH LOVE (nice
play on words here) is a Swedish creative collective focused on product
and furniture design which happens to have been featured at the Stocholm
Furniture Fair 9-13 Feb 2005.
The group also produces a wider range of work including graphic design,
illustration, concept design, product vizualisation and interactive media.
They certainly have nailed it!

SIMPLICITY is
an experimental research program at the MIT Media Lab, focused on developing
technologies for design—designs that are simpler to understand,
easier to use, and, ultimately, more enjoyable.
“The Simplicity Paradox refers to the fact that one always want
a powerfully functional object which by nature of its very potential
belies a complexity of operation. To make something simpler, often means
to make something less powerful. How do you make something powerful,
but simple to operate at the same time? This is the challenge.”
If you're in the mood to evaluate complex/simple demonstrations
and are inclined towards mind benders, check the Snowflake-a-Thon.
Marchos
Chin is an illustrator extraordinaire who has done fantastic editorial,
fashion and lifestyle projects! I like his sense of style and the very
flow of his drawing lines.
His characters feel very real all the while retaining a high level of
caricatural quality without plundging into a cheap and gross cartoonistic
exaggeration.

Oi
another procession down the bottomless pit of the megalo all your bases

Happy
B Lino Magazine!!! Diversity is the fuel upon which LINO successfully
runs. This anniversary issue acknowledges the art, culture and history
of many countries.
“With stories from Teheran to Fiji, LINO salutes the talents of
creative people across the world and look forward to bringing stories
that will continue to delight, excite and amuse you through the coming
year.”

“To
be free is not to merely to cast off one's chains but to live in a way
that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” - Nelson Mandela.
There are unfortunaly deeply disturbing and painful moments in our global
human history which we should never forget. The Apartheid
Museum traces South Africa's history back to the era before white
settlement. It then follows the political twists as Apartheid comes to
life. The site is available in flash + html with a special section dedicated
to educationl resources.

Hats off to Fluorescence for
their good work!
They
are the doers and the dreamers, the truth tellers and the trendsetters.
For the third year in a row, Fast
Company asked their readers to tell them about ordinary people doing
extraordinary things. The range of entrants is remarkable, from heads
of multinational corporations to garage inventors.
Follow along with the winners for a year, and trace an inspirational
chronicle of creativity, struggle, and triumph.

Now
if you head to Ask
E.T. you will find a rich list of threads on the topic of information
architecture. Now who's E.T.?
Edward Tufte writes, designs, and self-publishes his books on information
design, which have received more than 40 awards for content and design.
He is Professor Emeritus at Yale University, where he taught courses
in statistical evidence, information design, and interface design.

Creative
Behavior has got a brand new issue! Check it out!
CMYK
(for Those Who Do RGB) by Dave Shea
“Since web geeks think in pixels and RGB, it’s a daunting
new world to head into unequipped. Over the years across quite a few
print jobs by now, I’ve had to learn by trial and error. As someone
used to thinking in RGB, I’ve looked high and low for a good resource
to turn to for help in converting that knowledge to CMYK.”

Events
are often held at the stylish Bed
SupperClub (you've gotta see the floor plan) and cool site. Wow where
future meets now and experiencing creativity is taken seriously. Their
founders claim: “we wanted to provide a forum where people in Bangkok
could meet, exchange ideas and feed off each other creatively in an atmosphere
of style and innovation.”

Is
that cool or what? A combined book-and-DVD package, Freewave is

Bryan
Helm shoots really good pictures capturing reality with a twist.
Some are dawnright disturbing because charged with so much emotions;
others are just tongue and cheek and bordering on social sarcasm. Mega
talent! Lighting, mood, composition - none left me indifferent.

Turkey
Design & Designer Portal: Dinodream.
Ah!!!
Do you think increased alternate browsers useage like Firefox has
prompted the announcement for an IE7 browser launch? See what he thinks.
Although
I really don't think the pop-ups to show the portfolio items work - Christian
Heidemann concept and visuals for his site are truly original. LUV
the ID card that mentions 'adult' and the 'matches' mouseovers for the web is
such a good metaphor. That media is so temporary in nature.

Don't
know what to make of this. Original? Mmm... yes but seriously OUTOFORDER or
in this instance maybe, too much order?!?! That is one of the most extravagant
navigational system I've seen. Thankfully there are some excellent projects
to view and as they say:
“We are a graphic design studio wich is specialized in all kinds
of media.”

Linde home
of the little and very cute characters (and monsters too)... Just LUV
this illustration style.

What
do you make of Roy Lichtenstein?
Definitely a talented illustrator... but is he an artistic genius? Known
and recalled for his cartoonistic mega sized paintings a lot were said
to be vague and sometimes not so distant imitation of others work.

We are and have been early adopters of
web standards. We support open-source. We support a web that builds upon
cross-browsers/platforms accessibility. Make sure yours passes the test

What's
back in fashion? '70s relax mode. SIDLOE
is
a man/woman line of clothing launching their new site today. (Lionel,
my jet ain't available - sorry can't make it in time to Mauritius for
the party.)
What I particularly like about the site is the clean white airy and
very bright (photographic) stage whereas the clothes are modelled by
original fashion illustrations.
Now that's a nice creative intersection. LUV it!

Big
trouble here! Whooah Macromedia
site got ripped. In fact, that looks like a two way rip since the copycat is
a non-profit organization. It is beyond me how a developer can do something
like this and think being able to get away with it! Reported by Yul Karel.

ndle1: Gianni
reports: “Interestingly I was wondering when it would happen. In
the macromedia's product dreamweaver MX 2004 there is a template for
the Halo macromedia style website in 3 column and one column orientations.
Complete with CSS, graphics, menu...”
Problem with this possibility is that the copycat logo
source is: <img src="/images/logos/global_navigation_logo.gif"
width="116" height="34" alt="Macromedia" />
