Robert
Salzmer has launched a new magazine about corporate identity documentation,
corporate design manuals, styleguides, etc. called CIDOC.
In beta stages, supposed to have 500+ docs in the pipe...

“Good
listener, friendly and open minded, I perceive the direct communication
between the client and the designer as being the only way to match a
desired objective with the final result.”
Meet Teodor Droscaru who talks
the walk and walks the talk. Brillant visual metaphor for a minimalist
site!

Interesting!
At first, I thought some of the illustrations of Drew Heffron were drawn
by a child... isn't it wonderful to have kept the memory and the ability
to have those spontaneous strokes available?
The originality, the palette and compositions are stunning..

WOW!
Now you've gotta see Sven Burman and the work he does! Simply extraordinary!
Luv the interaction to access each sections! Original and simple! Don't
miss the mini-movies, especially the Barbaram (internet) TV opening sequence
with sound up!

Oh! WellVetted ripped
apart and celebrating 2 years online... surprise!!! The new site has
been under development for a while now and those who attended FITC04
had a sneak preview from Group94,
mes amis de Belgique!
The prototype was a mindboggling master piece from a technology point
of view and from a broadcasting point of view. What you see... is a tiny-wheenie-bitty
part... with new (additional) members and guests.

Were

risky out there by Andy Budd.
“Give each risk an owner. On smaller projects, the
project manager will likely own all of the risks. On larger projects,
you’ll want to make various senior team members responsible for
particular risks. It will be the risk owner’s job to monitor his
risk and update the risk register (and in turn the project manager) should
the severity or likelihood of the risk change.”

Encouraging to see such good work produced. Web site designed by Cloudred

you can pick by media, artist/student or project name.
Excellent work!

Bjorn
Andersson has put together a photo series from a huge stack of images
taken during a pretty long period of time. The series is called Purpurite to
be visited with patience. You will rewarded, this photographer has an
extraordinary eye for composition that convey emotions.

“Design
has been an unwitting agent of defuturing. It is obviously impossible
for designers to be that one class of beings able to see into the future
and view the consequences of their actions before they occur, and so
be able to modify them for ‘the good’.
What designers can do though is to set-out to think, model and project
the designing consequences of what they design. In so doing they need
to ask and extrapolate: “what will that which I design be likely
to bring into being, and with what likely results?”
Trying to answer this kind of question is one of the crucial
tasks in creating the possibility of a thinking design ethics.” excerpt
from The
Voice of Sustainment:The Dialectic by Tony Fry.

Creativity
(unrelated) edges is a new article I wrote for Creative Behavior.
Thanks to Patrick for the
illustration! You rock.
“Some title huh? The more I write about creativity the more I
struggle and the more mysterious and daunting the task.Yepp everybody
talks about
‘it’. We should all own ‘it’. We should all be
good at ‘it’. We have ‘titles’ that identifies
us as having ‘it’. We should… well the list goes on
and on, but ‘it’ eludes a once and for all squared in definition.”

ZelaZela

Now
if you want mini you want to have a look at minnim.tv!
Tiny tiny site with tiny tiny nav and screen!

The

of creativity, ingenuity from an absolute genial team.
They are a small production team in Brussels and who just finished their
first short movie MARLA using
a homemade custom camera (MINI35 kit based around a Nikon F-2 and a Canon
Gl-2). Their budget was about 400$, mostly spent on food and tapes. On
the website, you will find the trailer, the movie, making-of pictures
and many other things.
They wrote a small pdf guide called “just facts: another guide
to digital filmmaking” where they explain how they did it: step
by step guide to build a homemade MINI35, shootings tips, post-production
guide... Hats off to Olivier & Sebastien. Now can someone invest
and give them the budget to do more.

How
to use Flash in a very subtle and striking way? What I like most is the
conjunction of photography mixed with line art that are animated together.
Luv their pitch: “Materializing The Ideas!” From that smart
concept and how they render it - proves the potential of this agency.
Have a look at Rivena.

“The
Perplexity Poll results reinforce that confusing information leads
to the deterioration of customer relationships, reduced brand loyalty
and potential health problems... Lack of clear, understandable instructions
the primary reasons consumers contact manufacturers.” by Siegel

Well it seems we will need more 'Perplexity Polls' to
get the attention of corporations on their need to provide legible and
usable features for everyone! Ever been caught up by having missed the
small print on a document or the interpretation of an obscure clause?
Makes for a quick read (download the pdf) and keep handy to show your
boss / client on your next assignment.
If
you visiti Bulldog Design Group v.3

Insights
as to why I am against SEXPLOITATION in communication design! Pornography
Perils by Kelly Burgener
“I am writing to voice my concern for the recent
sex issues in Print and Step magazines.
At the risk of being dismissed as prudish, naive, or at the very least,
provincially out of step, I believe that someone needs to explain another
perspective on this topic that may be of some value for this profession
to consider...That the pornography industry is undoubtedly one of the
most exploitative industries of our day—an industry of extreme
manipulation, coercion, profiteering, and addiction—is reason alone
for designers to reject it and to lend their efforts to its limitation
or removal..”
“I
grew up west of Denver in a suburban community called Green Mountain.
When I was younger, my time was spent snowboarding, hiking and camping
in the mountains. The most beautiful images my eyes have ever seen have
been events or locations in nature. This is what inspires most of my
work. I feel my art is a fusion of digital elements and nature's raw
and majestic beauty.”
Meet SNOWBLINDED who is exactly
as his words says! Some refinements of skills still required but definitely
an emerging talent to watch for!

T-DESIGN is
a comprehensive furniture site with a lot of items in it which actually
is organized in a calm experience. How easy is it to be overwhelmed by
too much info, don't we know!? Well the site caters both a sense of elegance
and craftmanship. Nice transitions in the top banner and special efforts
were put into providing outstanding product pictures. Overall one of
the best online store I've seen.

Now
ain't that cool or what? Indesain site
is now a CSS designed site with Look 'Ma no more tables! Hats off Yul!
Lyrical
design mixed with lots of white space on Fikir
Atelyesi Mikrosite. Use of strong images always supports content
effectively!

Have
you done a little favicon for your site before? You can use a pixel based
editor or FavIcon from
Pics which does it right there. This is what we did for our new face
on netdiver. Make sure to you use a good size file so the reduction keeps
clear details. To renew a favicon using IE (other browsers will detect
it) first delete netdiver bookmark (for example) and open the 'internet
options' menu; in the general tab pick 'settings' and open; locate 'netdiver'
old icon and delete it. Now bookmark netdiver again and new favicon will
appear.
Haven't
we seen a lot of 'malls' going online and as fast going into the ether?!?! Carnaby.co.uk has
got more than international recognition thanks to the Beatles and how
Piccadilly Circus and Carnaby were the hot spots in the 70s... Nice site
- good illos for aimed at the cool crowd but the pièce of résistance
is the explorer.
The map database detailing and cross linking is simply awesome!

Have
you visited Pirated Sites ever?
A good resource for seeing copycats that are as daunting as maddening.
Yepp spare me that it is an honor to be copied 'cause right after the
tickling glow, bottom line, those who snitch and appropriate others sites
will probably be caught and reported by the luving fans of the ripped
site and their reputation discredited as well as sending a loud message
that states a sure proof of their complete lazziness, lack of imagination
and talent.
So finito their career.

This
is LA! Land of extremes, where dreamers do so in more colors. Smoggy
with no good public transportation (the City was designed to be driven
around) this is the place where a subclass is holding up to the needs
of the rich and famous. Known to be the place where your waiter is probably
an aspirant script writer and your sales lady an aspirant actrice!
Basically everyone is not what everyone wish it would be. west sunset
/ this is LA a photo essay.

Just
wild! Especially if you visit with IE. I know that some have criticized
my choice of the Groninger Museum sometime ago as a design forte recipient
because it was so not usable but I LUV the innovation and pushing the
how it should be done much further... well The
Zyme >>> is like a baby bro.
Understood it does not have the depth of the museum, right... but tha
same kind of idea.

Throwing
Tables Out the Window. Look Ma, No Tables! (uh! that's my line
dude ;-P) by Doug Bowman.
“With the CSS waters thoroughly tested by many sites that have
taken the plunge, it’s time for us to start cheering from the water
below, coaxing and encouraging those who haven’t yet jumped in,
to make that jump. There’s no longer any reason to use tables for
layout, nor is there reason to maintain multiple versions of a site solely
for different desktop browsers. Throw the tables out first. Trust us,
they’re not needed anymore.”
_ _ _ _ _ _
ndle1: Examples
to tableless (cross-browser) designs that we've output/input in the past
year: T4CT/04 - argan3 - afterchaos*
- pixeltable - VDL2 - independentsday.org -
and yes, netdiver index (this page)! Powerful are CSS - granted it definitely
requires more work to make fit a design.
_ _ _ _ _ _
ndle2: Wanna see the power of CSS? If you have
a hand-held - (keep in mind this site was not 'formatted' for hh) just
because there are no tables, you can actually see the site... even on
those darn mini-screens on mobile phones! Now just imagine the future!
Learning
chromatics and how to use color well is one of the most important activity
of a designer. Even after years of experience there are always more one
can learn and experiment with. Color

What
is the cost of War in Irak? A

Astonishing and astounding! When will we ever learn! Say no to war.
An
absolutely amazing designer Guillermo Damian Fernandez spools tons of
work that varies from identity, print (ads and Ts) and some pretty good
photography! Oh and PS brush to downloads on GFERNA and
oh btw, he is the founder of Bluevertigo a

Breaking
the Silence an interview with Caroline Moore by Taxi.
“Superficiality is the culprit to our blindness,
manipulating our every single movement by our short-term desires and
shallow behaviors. The result -- a bad cocktail of compromise and oppression.
The real fact is that we are never truly comfortable with ourselves till
we see the first scratch. And the step to jumping out the taboo is to
cut it open. In that sense, Caroline Moore is a scream.”
Mixing

Minimalist
and lots of white this site has not flash but has a dynamic feel to it
anyway! Estatura is Cool! Make
sure to read the little pitch! Although on the web the ratio is about
65-70% visually induced and the rest is content / copy - it is important
not to the discard or minimize the value of words. This is why well chosen
words can make all the difference!

Although
there is not much content or projects to review available on Dikon site
has something that grabs your attention. It is a cross between absolute
minimalist and adding just the right visual touch. Photographs are very
good and the navigation system is absolutely brillant and gorgeous.

A.Medicine.for.Apathy...
need I say more? Well done visual metaphor. Have a look at their 3 different
editions.

I
really like the perspective illusion to present the projects on the Redwebsite!
Intriquing.

An
amazing pixel design for a bookstore: Ariel
Booksellers. Luv it! Clean and enticing. Effective! With such attention
to details, just want to see what's in store? The animation simulates
a 24h rotation and is exquisite. Interesting to see that they did use
the actual location to build the animation!

Natural

Wroblewski
We've
seen tons of 'shoes' related design... Now why would visualhero distinguish
itself??? Simple: high quality picture mixed with visual details that
makes it standout and unique. Reality meets virtuality. To infer you
are a designer - it is those 'details' that often make the difference.
Although the fonts are a tad too small I really like the red links.
