Net
attack dismissed (???). Security experts: Assault on root servers
easily defeated by Hiawatha Bray
Federal investigators don't know who launched the massive
attack on the Internet's 13 root servers, the basic directory system
of the network. But they're worried about the sheer ambition of the attack.
Companies like Lexington's Arbor Networks Inc. make products that Internet
providers use to identify and filter out illicit data flows. Arbor cofounder
Ted Julian said that his company worked with customers on Monday to tune
the filters and block many of the offending packets.
Patent
Troubles Pending. Small companies say they're being sued for employing
common practices for doing business on the Net by John Soat.
